Big Mama's Baked Beans

Darla Kaye Wynne, South Carolina

Depending on the amount of people you are feeding will depend on the amount you use. To feed about 6 people, this is the recipe and keep in mind, this recipe depends greatly upon your taste rather than a specific amount of anything. Open your pork and beans and put into a baking pan. Cut up your onion and add it to the beans. Add ketchup and one third of the amount of mustard, compared to the ketchup. Stir real well until you have a nice creamy mixture. Add at least a half cup of brown sugar and sugar, Mix. Taste and add sugar to your desired taste. You want it to have a slight sweet taste. Add salt, pepper, and garlic to taste. Lay your uncooked bacon on top of the beans to make the whole top look like lattice work. Sprinkle pepper over the bacon and then sprinkle brown sugar and sugar over the top. Bake in the oven at 350° for one hour or until bacon is completely done and the beans have a molasses type consistency. Serve warm.
